Ukrainian comedian Volodymyr Zelensky, who won a run-off election to become the country’s next president by a landslide victory, has rejected the presidency position.
Mr Zelensky says his participation was just a joke to sell his satirical drama in which he accidentally became a President.
The comedian says he was able to meet his target and never expected to be elected president in real life.
He has since rejected the Presidency and called for “a serious election”.
The polls give him more than 70% support. He dominated the first round of voting three weeks ago when 39 candidates were on the ticket.
Mr Zelensky challenged incumbent president Petro Poroshenko.
Mr Poroshenko has admitted defeat but told supporters gathered in Kiev that he will not leave politics.
The comedian’s decision to reject his election and calling the entire process “just a joke”, has left many Ukrainians in shock. A section of the country are calling for his arrest for public deceit and wasting of state funds.
